Trials
Two dietary supplement clinical trials were conducted with healthy volunteers,
investigating the co-administration of a highly refined, SOE-containing
grapefruit extract with the HIV protease inhibitor saquinavir. The first
trial involved 12 volunteers in a double blinded, placebo controlled
study with a randomized crossover period of two weeks, using a liquid
formulation of the SOEs. The second study involved 4 volunteers comparing
liquid SOE to capsule SOE to placebo. An average 40-fold increase in
the blood levels of saquinavir was observed.
